Though overfishing has severely depleted coastal fisheries, it’s not to late to reverse the decline. Inaction will result in costlier and more difficult efforts. In communities where fish stocks have recovered, several common factors exist: strong local leadership, community management, exclusive access, no-fishing areas and enforcement. Rare works with local conservationists in rural communities and empowered people to manage the natural infrastructure upon which their lives depend.
